So a little while back, I announce my resignation from SearchAnyway . Basically, I accepted a position at Capazoo. The position is Editor in Chief of Capazine, their primary content portal, and since coming on board, I’ve been rebuilding it. The project is still in beta, but here’s a run-down of what’s been done so far.

Accomplishments

In addition to moulding the portal’s content format (as a magazine, that is), I’ve re-conceptualized the user-interface. The web design and integration teams have been invaluable in realizing my vision, and I’ve been luck to work with them. This is how it looked before:

An this is how it looks now:

I’ve also implemented a number of functionalities and SEO practices that should increase overall user-experience. These include:

  • Sidebar video player (different video in each category)
  • The ability to email articles to friends
  • SEO’d categories and subcategories: Entertainment, Style, Life, Photograpy, Sports, and Comedy)
  • A more search engine friendly page structure
  • Amazon affiliate links on all products mentioned
  • and I’ve migrated the site form being a pop-up to existing within the larger, Capazoo community portal

To Do

This, however, is just the tip of the iceberg. Aside form having various plans for Capazine’s (content) format, I’m not quite done bringing it up to a Web 2.0 par. Over the next month, or so, I plan to implement:

  • Comments on articles
  • RSS feeds for the whole site, categories, and comments
  • Social bookmarking function
  • and a search function (I know, it sounds crazy not having one; but (1) the developers are overhauling the site search so I’m waiting on that, and (2) there’s sufficiently little content that browsing the archives will suffice for now)

In a word, I intend to make Capazine as much like a blog as possible — only with much more diverse content, and a higher standard of QA (i.e. editorial format). After all, from the perspective of content generation, blogs are where Web 2.0 is at.

Highlights

Amassing enough content for the relaunch as been 50% of my journey at Capazoo thus far. For starters, there was my very first Letter from the Editor. But here are some other highlights, broken down by subcategory. A double asterix indicates where my marketing experience influenced my editorial prerogative.
